Dungeon & Dragons Crochet

CLIENT REQUEST: Penguin Random House required a photographer with versatility in both still life and lifestyle work, capable of blending the fantastical elements of the Dungeons & Dragons universe with real-world environments. The client sought an editorial visual approach, and the project needed to be executed within a limited budget and with only essential crew members to stay within budget.

SOLUTION: I expanded my role beyond photography and retouching to include creative direction, partnering closely with the Executive Creative Director at Ten Speed Press to develop the project’s visual style and artistic vision. To accommodate the limited budget and essential crew requirements, I capped my creative fee, allowing more funds to be allocated to the crew and project. An intricate tech scout allowed us to streamline the production, reducing the typical two-week timeline to just five days. The result was a set of images that the Dungeons & Dragons team was thrilled with, perfectly capturing the editorial spirit and unique fusion of worlds the project called for.
